MISSED CALL

What we put out in the universe, is what we get back from it.

But- not always in the same form.

I had a tough time understanding this saying. It was one of those “everything happens for a reason” type of phrase, which in itself holds its own positivity. By this point in my life, I had inculcated the concept that life in itself isn't fair- so far deep in my mind, that it made no difference to me what the universe was to bring upon me. It didn’t matter if I didn’t get the response I wanted, the grade I needed, the comfort I craved, or rather the respect I deserved. I disciplined my mind to say these 5 syllables at every inconvenience that came my way, “It is what it is.” Syllables that cost me the optimism I wish I guarded - at a time I needed it the most. I debated on including the remainder of that sentence but then it occurred to me that that would simply be unrealistic. When we hurt, we blur all rationality to make way for the act of bargaining. We convince ourselves that maybe it really isn’t what it looks like. Maybe it's just a false diagnosis. That what had occurred was just a bruise, and not a scar that would dictate far more than just our worth. A scar that was incapable of mending itself until we let the open wound breathe and take its own course of healing. Looking back on the time I may have needed it the most, I know it wouldn't have made a difference to me. Hurt consumes us to a point that all we can think to ourselves is that the universe is against us. Not with us. For us. By us. Just against us. But that’s where we falter. Every moment that we spend reminiscing about the “what if’s or “why me’s” is another missed call from the universe. A missed invitation towards an altered mindset, new beginnings, redemption, and growth. One that ensured you never woke up to a voicemail.

You put money into a slot machine, but you don't always win

You work the hardest you ever have, but it’s not always the outcome you want

You prioritize someone else's well-being over yours, it’s not always worth it.

You sacrifice youth for a career, it’s not always smooth sailing.

When you smile, you don't always get a smile back

It doesn’t mean you stop smiling. Just like it doesn't mean that you stop taking risks, stop working hard for what you believe in, stop respecting your values, or give up on your greatest ambitions.

It simply means…

That you were destined for more.

The pain, the frustration, the agitation, the disappointment you experience isn’t a reflection of who you are.

It’s a form of realization that is meant to scream the words that you are destined for more.

That there was a lesson yet to learn, and to master it, you have to familiarize yourself with failure before you pave your way for success.

Tomorrow,

The risk you took, the opportunity you lost, the time you spent, the sacrifice you made was an empire you had yet to build.

You just didn't know it yet.

Life is a gamble,

where the universe plays its cards.

You could choose to stay within your comfort with the 2 of clubs

Or

You could take a few falls

And choose to rewrite your fate with the ace of spades.

What we put out into the universe is what we get from it

But-

Not in the same form- Only greater.
